Anne: The hotel was very much a family run affair, and we and the horses spending a pleasant evening, the horses getting the best grass since they left Ireland. We brought them down to the jeep to tack up as their field was more like a small back garden. Clouds were threatening but so far it was dry.
We bought some fruit and ham from the wee shop attached to the hotel, and headed off once more in the general direction of Chateau Chinon.
The track was well marked and nice soft going, which was as well as we had decided to get as much wear out of the old boots as possible.
This area is far more populated than the Drome and we came upon small village after small village
With water everywhere
Flurry went to take a drink out of this stream and then got a fright at the noise it was making
and curious cattle.
The rain then started, drizzle at first
Swelling the already full rivers, this is actually a ford, you can just see the track at the far end, although that was also a bit of a stream!
Then we came into the forest, lovely tracks, good balisage or markers, and we were making good time on the good ground, a few nice long canters, great ! Past some young trees that looked like Christmas trees.
But then things started to go wrong, Martine couldn't find any landmarks in the forest that corresponded to the map, and we had not seen an orange marker in a while. We kept going deeper into the forest but still no luck. Eventually she turned on data roaming and google maps, we were way of track, but if we kept going we would eventually come to a road.
This little guy hitched a ride, not realising we were lost !
Finally the road came into view, by this time it was raining heavily, we were so glad to see civilisation again, and only earlier we were saying how populated the area was !
