The First French Hack (Ballade!)

New Years Day in France!  It's unseasonably warm today, it must be about 16C out there.  It's better than most Irish summer days - just look at the blue sky:
We went out for a very short New Year's Day hack - maybe half an hour or a little less.  Both horses behaved perfectly, but they both felt "anxious" - GiGi was in Fidget Mode anytime we tried to stop for photos, and Flurry was very keen to get home once he knew we were approaching La Florentine.  I'm sure they'll settle quickly, and get used to their new environment.  We were ridiculously happy with ourselves when we got back - it's hard to believe that we're finally here and riding our horses!
GiGi inspects her saddle suspiciously

Anne & GiGi with Shrek the dog in the background

Shrek leads the way!
We didn't use their new Renegade Boots, as GiGi can't wear her front ones yet, because they won't fit over the PHW wraps.  When we got back we played around with them for a while.  I have a suspicion that I've bought the wrong size for Flurry's hind feet, as they were a little tight going on, but the front ones seem fine.  Anne also struggled with GiGi's hind boots, so maybe the difficulty is more a lack of experience problem than a sizing problem.

We took them for a little walk to give them a feel for their new booties.  Flurry grew in confidence with each step, so by the time we were coming back to the yard, he was stomping his front feet down!
He looks so smart with his new red shoes!

  2. @Clive, happy 2012 to you, Murray and the rest of the family too!
I think Shrek will appear in a lot of our photos, he likes to act as escort to any group of riders going out on a hack.
Glad Murray likes the horses' new shoes!
@Shona, it's incredible to be riding around here and thinking, in a few weeks this will just be old hat!

  6. You should see our weather here! That photo of Anne in a t-shirt was just excessive I think. (Green-eyed monster is typing this.) Love the renegades. Enjoy many good rides in that great weather.
